Okay, since nobody posted up this yet, I figured I would. I just read that in 19 days, SOPA will get voted on. As I see it, it will kill the internet, or at the very least mutilate it like no tomorrow.
From the moment it crawled out of the inky abyss that spawned it, it has been nothing but a confusing mess. Even the people that support (including some unlikely allies, which are linked below) it probably don't know how it works, but they'll sign it anyway, probably cause they'll get something out of it.
In my opinion, this is nothing more than a futile attempt to censor the internet, and time & time again since it's inception, the internet cannot be censored. Even if SOPA did managed to get signed (God help us all if it happens), there are ways to get around it. In short, SOPA is nothing more than a weak attempt by the government to assert it's authority over something that it can't control.
So, movers and shakers of these fine forums, what do you think of all this? Is it good and has the ability to stop piracy and other illegal online activities, or will it do more damage than people think?
